Kubernetes without the complexity: deploy on K8s without touching it

Kubernetes has become the standard for orchestrating applications in production. Google, Spotify, Airbnb and NASA all use it. Its power is not in doubt.

But let us be honest: most teams who take on K8s underestimate the complexity. We have seen it at dozens of startups who contacted us after weeks of struggling with YAML files.

The real problem with Kubernetes

To deploy a simple Node.js application on Kubernetes, you need to master Pods, Deployments, Services, Ingress, ConfigMaps, Secrets, Persistent Volumes, RBAC, Helm charts, cert-manager, Ingress controllers... The list goes on.

Here is what a minimal K8s deployment looks like for a single app:

# deployment.yaml — 80+ lines for ONE application
apiVersion: apps/v1
kind: Deployment
metadata:
  name: my-api
  namespace: production
spec:
  replicas: 2
  selector:
    matchLabels:
      app: my-api
  template:
    metadata:
      labels:
        app: my-api
    spec:
      containers:
      - name: my-api
        image: registry.example.com/my-api:v1.2.3
        ports:
        - containerPort: 3000
        env:
        - name: DATABASE_URL
          valueFrom:
            secretKeyRef:
              name: my-api-secrets
              key: database-url
        resources:
          requests:
            memory: "256Mi"
            cpu: "250m"
          limits:
            memory: "512Mi"
            cpu: "500m"
        readinessProbe:
          httpGet:
            path: /health
            port: 3000
          initialDelaySeconds: 5
          periodSeconds: 10
---
apiVersion: v1
kind: Service
metadata:
  name: my-api
spec:
  selector:
    app: my-api
  ports:
  - port: 80
    targetPort: 3000
---
apiVersion: networking.k8s.io/v1
kind: Ingress
metadata:
  name: my-api
  annotations:
    cert-manager.io/cluster-issuer: letsencrypt-prod
spec:
  tls:
  - hosts:
    - api.mydomain.com
    secretName: my-api-tls
  rules:
  - host: api.mydomain.com
    http:
      paths:
      - path: /
        pathType: Prefix
        backend:
          service:
            name: my-api
            port:
              number: 80

Eighty lines of YAML. And we have not even mentioned the Secret, the PersistentVolumeClaim, the HorizontalPodAutoscaler or the NetworkPolicy.

For context: the CKA certification (Certified Kubernetes Administrator) takes months of preparation, K8s training costs between 1,000 and 3,000 EUR, and hiring a senior K8s engineer costs 60,000 EUR a year at the very least.

What you actually need

For a startup getting started, all that investment is out of proportion. The truth is that you do not need to run Kubernetes. You need what it gives you:

  • High availability
  • Auto-scaling
  • Isolation between projects
  • Deployments with no downtime

That is exactly what we provide on Nubiecloud. The same reliability guarantees as a cluster run by a ten-person SRE team, with nothing to configure on your side.

How it works in practice

When you deploy on Nubiecloud, we run the whole Kubernetes layer for you. You connect your Git repository, we detect your framework, we build, we deploy with a rolling update, and we configure SSL and monitoring.

Your only interaction: git push. The rest is invisible.

And underneath, you get the best of what K8s offers: your applications run on several instances (high availability), capacity follows the traffic (auto-scaling), updates happen without interruption (zero-downtime), and your resources are fully isolated.

Backups of your managed PostgreSQL databases are automatic. CPU, RAM, network and log monitoring is real time. All of it is included in every plan, the free one included.

When running K8s yourself does make sense

It would be dishonest to claim that a PaaS suits everyone. There are cases where running your own cluster is justified:

  • You have a dedicated DevOps/SRE team of five or more
  • You have very specific compliance constraints (data sovereignty, banking regulation)
  • You run hundreds of microservices with complex communication patterns
  • You need genuinely bespoke orchestration

For every other case — and that is the large majority of the teams we meet — a PaaS saves you time, money and a fair number of nights of sleep.

Try it, no strings attached

Deploy your first application on Nubiecloud in five minutes. Free plan, no credit card. And if you are currently fighting with YAML files, we are happy to talk it through.
